A Truthful Smile: International Day Of Happiness

What’s more important than a smile? What’s more important than happiness? As we celebrate the International Day of Happiness on the 20th of March, 2021, we bring a smile to our loved ones. We invite everyone in the world, no matter young or old, to celebrate the International Day of Happiness.

Along with the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Goals, the UN proclaimed one day in March to celebrate happiness, recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives. It also recognized the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all people.

Happiness is serious business. The UN held meetings and considered what to do about the need to recognize and celebrate mental health around the world. As the United Nations examined the importance of happiness, it needs a way to promote the idea that happiness is a universal human right. Since the 2012 resolution, Happiness Day has been celebrated by millions around the world.

The idea was inspired by Bhutan, a country which values national happiness over national income since the early 1970s and famously adopted the goal of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product. It also hosted a High Level Meeting on "Happiness and Well-Being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm" during the sixty-sixth session of the General Assembly.

Like how Gabriel Garcia Marquez states, “No medicine can cure what happiness cannot”, being in a happy state is the main key in our lives. There is no use of remaining in a sad state for a colossal amount of time, as being happy is just the key to life. Thus, be happy, in every day of your life, or at least on 20th March!

In this special day, you could make a little pledge. It would not harm, but promising yourself would help. It could go, “I will be happy and ignore the negativity in my life today, and focus on the positive things.” Plus, you could also appoint for a big feast with your family and friends! Not only food can feed you to be full, it could also bring happiness.

In conclusion, the International Day of Happiness, on the 20th of March, is definitely a wonderful thing to celebrate for, bring happiness and joy to your loved ones now!
